THE NEFARIA PROTOCOLS (2000)

By the year 2000, the  numerous deaths and doubles (and deaths of doubles) had made Madame Masque an almost unusable character. Kurt Busiek's continuity-cleaning obsession was the only thing that could save her. Add her ionic-powered father to the mix and you've got reason enough for another Avengers / Thunderbolts jamboree! FEARFUL SYMMETRY: KRAVEN'S LAST HUNT (1987)

KRAVEN'S LAST HUNT is shockingly dark for a Spider-Man story. JM DeMatteis originally proposed it to DC as a Batman story, but it was rejected. Peter Parker 's psychological torment, Kraven the Hunter 's rampage, Vermin 's brutal defeat and the way Kraven deals with achieving his goal still retain a darkness that no one has captured in a Spidey saga since. This time, though, Kraven isn't messing around. While Spidey's out on patrol, Kraven fires a tranquiliser dart at him, nets him and then shoots him. SUB-MARINER VERSUS THE HUMAN RACE! (1963)

Despite starting out as an enemy of the human race, particularly the United States, in his earliest Golden Age appearances, Namor the Sub-Mariner would join the fight against the Nazis alongside Captain America and the original Human Torch during World War II. When he returned to comics in the pages of Fantastic Four , the Sub-Mariner started out as one of their recurring enemies.  Namor fought the Fantastic Four in his first modern appearance, then teamed up with Doctor Doom , preyed on the FF's bankruptcy and tackled the modern Human Torch alone.  But he's about to step up his threat level by declaring all of humanity as his enemy as his search for lost Atlantis finally comes to a head. This story acts as the official first modern appearance of Atlantis, Lady Dorma and the Atlanteans and introduces Lord Krang and Thakor ...
