Despite having lost both his hands and been left comatose the last time we saw him, the Mandarin is back and he's looking for ultimate power and revenge on his armoured foe, Iron Man . His vaporised hands have been replaced with freaky, clawed reptile limbs. And, aside from his ten rings, the Mandarin has discovered an all-powerful artefact called the Heart of Darkness which seems to have granted him new abilities and a nice new frock. James Rhodes quit working for Tony Stark when the billionaire playboy faked his own death without telling him. But he also took the War Machine armour and has been using it on missions for Worldwatch , though his most recent fight with the Cold Warrior caused the suit some serious damage in a fight against the Cold Warrior. So now it's time to go crawling back to Tony to ask for his suit's specs and get some repairs... Often denounced as the worst Avengers storyline in history (and it's hard to argue), THE CROSSING was the last major event for Earth's Mightiest Heroes before ONSLAUGHT  came along and Etch-a-Sketched the whole mess out of existence.
