The mystery of Mantis ' origins are finally revealed when Kang comes to claim the Celestial Madonna as his bride. This strange Avengers tales sees the team travel through time, reveals the connection between Kang, Immortus and Rama-Tut , transforms the Scarlet Witch into an actual witch, brings the wayward  Hawkeye back to the Avengers, reveals the 'truth' about the Vision 's origin and finishes on a double-wedding that includes a woman marrying a tree. When I first read this story, I just found it odd and difficult to get through. Now... it's about the same. I previously ran this story as a much shorter reading order, but discovered more and more related issues as I realised how far back this went. The Corporation made their debut in 1976 (during IRON FIST MUST DIE! ), clashing with Jack of Hearts , White Tiger , Shang-Chi and Iron Fist . THE CORPORATION storyline introduced some of the faces behind the organisation as it started to focus on manipulating Captain America , attempting to obtain Machine Man , trying to turn the Thing against the Fantastic Four and accidentally upsetting the Hulk . With  THE CORPORATION , Marvel played with the interesting idea of a powerful group with agents secreted within all aspects of American society, manipulating events to their own nefarious ends and clashing with costumed heroes. This had been achieved before with Hydra , AIM and the Secret Empire (during T.H.E.M. ), subtly pitting heroes against these organisations with an overarching goal that you wouldn't necessarily be aware of it you d...
