The Earth finds itself slap-bang in the middle of the war between the empirical Kree race and the shapeshifting alien Skrulls; a war that's gone on for millennia, give or take. Whoever claims the Earth first will likely win the war. The Kree - being the master tacticians they are - figure it's best to end the threat of the Avengers first.
At the same time, the Inhumans consider moving out of seclusion and into human society. But they're about to find society aren't ready for them. Or is it the other way around?
THE KREE-SKRULL WAR influences a great number of later event in the Marvel Universe, most notably SECRET INVASION. It's worth noting that, while it's considered a classic, it's very much a product of its time and can be a tough read for modern audiences to work through. The side of the story that makes this a crossover is more about the Inhumans than the Avengers, so skipping those tie-in issues doesn't really effect the overall story. Though those incredibly out-of character Magneto appearances have to be seen to be believed...!
