THE THANOS WAR (1973-1974)

Thanos was born one of the Eternals of Titan (or Titanians) - the peaceful offshoot of the Eternals of Earth who lived in their perfect little society on one of Saturn's moons (though the origin of the Titanians in this story is more mythological). But Thanos wasn't like his father Mentor or his brother Eros. Thanos wanted to make weapons. Thanos wanted to kill!

So Mentor banished Thanos, who built himself an army and attacked Titan. Mentor appealed to his super-powerful father, Kronos (the abstract cosmic being), who created one superhuman being called Drax the Destroyer from the ground itself and sends him to destroy Thanos and make Titan safe again. The two of them fight until Drax  is taken prisoner by Thanos. Desperate, Drax sends out a signal for help.

Aside from the Avengers, Thanos' actions will all heavily impact another hero, Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell of the Kree), who shares his space in the positive matter universe with Rick Jones. When Marv fights on Earth, Rick finds himself in the Negative Zone, until the two switch places so Rick can try to live a normal life.

MARVEL MONSTERS (2005)

One of Marvel's fifth-week events from 2005 centred around the classic Marvel Monsters that would invade the pages of Strange Tales , Journey into Mystery , Amazing Adventures , Tales to Astonish and Tales of Suspense every month, before the age of heroes. While it was an okay event at best, the four one-shots finally established that those behemoths from outer space and other dimensions did actually inhabit the Marvel Universe ! The highlight is the Hulk 's clash with Devil Dinosaur (a character who was first introduced in the 1970s), but we also found out what some of these creatures had been up to since their early '60 debuts, an untold tale of the time some of the Marvel U's more monstrous heroes gathered to fight them and, finally, the introduction of the  Fin Fang Four ! The featured stories aren't connected and most issues also featured reprints of classic Marvel Monster tales. Marvel Monsters: Devil Dinosaur #1 [1/2] Marvel Monsters: Monsters on the Prow...

WHEN MUTANTS CLASH (1967-1968)

When Captain America leaves Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers start to come apart at the seams. If that wasn't enough, two former-members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants - Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch - are about to leave the Avengers in favour of rejoining their old boss, Magneto . Will there even be a team left? Perhaps they could consider a new member like Dane Whitman -  a guy who can't make up his mind if he's a forward-thinking or an old-school Black Knight .  Magneto has plan to keep an eye on the shipping news and raid boats that pass his mid-Atlantic island base to help finish off his machine that will turn humanity into his mindless slaves.
