Despite starting out as an enemy of the human race, particularly the United States, in his earliest Golden Age appearances, Namor the Sub-Mariner would join the fight against the Nazis alongside Captain America and the original Human Torch during World War II. When he returned to comics in the pages of Fantastic Four, the Sub-Mariner started out as one of their recurring enemies.
Namor fought the Fantastic Four in his first modern appearance, then teamed up with Doctor Doom, preyed on the FF's bankruptcy and tackled the modern Human Torch alone. But he's about to step up his threat level by declaring all of humanity as his enemy as his search for lost Atlantis finally comes to a head.
This story acts as the official first modern appearance of Atlantis, Lady Dorma and the Atlanteans and introduces Lord Krang and Thakor...
Fantastic Four #14
The Puppet Master manipulates Namor the Sub-Mariner into kidnapping the Invisible Girl (Sue Storm) while she pines for the former ruler of Atlantis. The remaining member of the Fantastic Four head below the waves to rescue her. The Puppet Master's sub is dragged into the depths by an octopus, freeing Namor from his control. The FF return to the surface, leaving Namor to continue the search for lost Atlantis...
Fantastic Four Annual #1[1/3]
Having found his fellow Atlanteans, Namor the Sub-Mariner reclaims his place as their king and the affections of Lady Dorma from Lord Krang who believed Namor was dead. Namor announces to the Fantastic Four that the seven seas are his to command. Before the United Nations, Mister Fantastic (Reed Richards) proclaims Atlantis to be a credible threat, igniting a war with them. Reed ends the war by dehydrating the Atlantean soldiers. Namor kidnaps the Invisible Girl (again!) and, when she nearly drowns, he chooses her over Dorma. Namor takes Sue to a surface hospital and returns to the sea only to find the Atlanteans have disappeared, branding him a traitor and an outcast. Not realising Namor saved her life, Sue chooses Reed over Namor.
